selected baseline year must fall within the last five years. Use any combination of the following strategies
to show improvement:

such as reforestation and afforestation, soil and water rehabilitation, and habitat restoration.
b. Control and manage the spread of invasive species using integrated pest management
strategies.
c. Improve habitat connectivity.
d. Protect riparian area functions in floodplains; implement passive or active riparian restoration
programs on public lands to enhance the ecological functions of degraded floodplain areas.

Option 2. Biodiversity Enhancement (1–2 points)
Biodiversity Index (1 Point):
Using the information collected under IPp1: Ecosystem Assessment, develop a biodiversity index of the
city as per any recognized framework. Commit to updating the index at least once every five years to
track progress.
AND/OR
Enhanced Biodiversity Index (1 Point):
Develop and implement strategies to demonstrate an increasing trend in at least two biodiversity index
metrics from a user-defined baseline year. The selected baseline year must fall within the last five years.

Option 3. Natural Resource Management (1 point)
Develop and implement a natural resource management plan that includes at least three of the following
strategies:
a. Control of city-identified priority invasive species to prevent their population growth and expansion
b. Preferred plant ordinance for private and public landscaping (including information on local
species that minimizes damage from invasive species and enhances biodiversity and ecosystem
services)
c. Integrated pest management techniques that use nontoxic maintenance measures for
ecologically sensitive areas and human use areas (e.g., areas for children and pets, food
production areas within the city boundary)
d. Community engagement programs on maintenance of existing natural resources
