Note: Green space is defined as land that is partly or completely covered with trees, shrubs, grass, or

other climatically/regionally appropriate vegetation. This includes urban parks, trails and community

gardens, cemeteries, accessible vegetated roofs, and natural blue spaces surrounded by vegetation.

Green or blue spaces that are privately owned or have restricted access are not included.

AND/OR

Option 2. Accessibility and Inclusivity (1 point):

Ensure that at least 2 open spaces that collectively comprise at least 10% of the total open space area

considered for the open spaces’ calculation meet the following requirements:

a. ADA Compliance: Meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or

relevant national or local guidelines.

AND

b. Wayfinding: Provide wayfinding maps or signage that clearly indicate exits, entrances, and major

functions in the top three languages (based on population profile of the surrounding neighborhood

population).

AND

Provide one of the following features:

c. Interactive Educational and Recreational Spaces: An area that includes elements of human

interaction, education and recreational activities within the community, such as observation

platforms, paths, nature centers, botanical gardens, meditation spaces, and art gallery.

d. Community Gardens: Space dedicated to community gardens or shared urban food production.

e. Inclusive Design Features: Design children’s play areas with inclusive design features,

equipment, and materials to facilitate enhanced safety and comfort for children and caregivers.
