3. Potable Water Demand and Sources
Identify the city’s annual potable water demand and sources, including the quantity derived from
each source.
AND
Comply with any combination of the following options for a maximum of 2 points.
Option 1. Water Audit (1 point)
Conduct a water audit for 12 consecutive months within the last five years to meet the following
requirements:
a. Evaluate the water distribution system to assess the condition and capacity of the water supply
infrastructure, leak detection, and pressure management.
b. Identify strategies for improving system efficiency.
c. Establish protocols for regular monitoring of water usage and system performance.
AND/OR
Option 2. Water Source Capacity and Health (1 point)
Using the water balance calculation, demonstrate that the city has reliable and secure water sources that
can support the population’s needs, including growth projections, for the next 10 years from the user defined baseline year. The selected baseline year must fall within the last five years. Meet one of the
following requirements:
a. Demonstrate that the projected average annual water source extraction for the next 10 years will
be less than the naturally occurring recharge rate in the baseline year.
b. If the current or future use exceeds the baseline year recharge rate, implement a viable surface
or aquifer recharge system (using surface or treated wastewater) that replenishes or exceeds
extraction volumes on an annual basis for each of the next 10 years.
