DETERMINING ENERGY USE INTENSITY TARGETS
Teams may comply using a metric of either site energy or source energy.
Site EUI Site energy use intensity targets for the project’s climate zone and building activity are listed in ASHRAE 100-2024, Table B-1.
Source EUI Source energy use intensity targets for the project’s climate zone and building activity are calculated using the ASHRAE 100-2024, Appendix B site EUI targets for electricity (Table B-3) and natural gas (Table B-4), and source energy conversion factors for electricity and natural gas. The same source energy conversion factors (SEF) are used to determine the project’s source EUI and the source EUI targets. Refer to additional guidance on Source Energy Conversion Factors for Options 2 and 3.

Building activity/type Select the building activity that most closely aligns with the project’s functional use (for example, admin/professional office, a convenience store with gas, or a college/university). Building activities are listed in ASHRAE 100-2024, Tables B-1 or LEED v5 O+M Rating System Appendix II, Table 1. Per ASHRAE 100-2024, for mixed-use properties with more than one building activity, calculate a weighted average EUI target based on the gross floor area of each building activity. If the building’s primary activity is greater than 75% of the total area, projects may elect to only use the primary building activity to determine the target. Refer to ASHRAE 100-2024, Section 7.2.3 [63] for further information on EUI determination for projects with multiple building activities.
Operating shift adjustments An operating shift multiplier (S) from ASHRAE 100-2024, Table 7-7 [64] is applied to the Energy Use Intensity targets when the project’s operating hours vary significantly from the median in the
